At the Run box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your CDROM drive. Windows 3.1/NT: Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run. At the Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your CDROM drive. This will install a group folder with icons for this CDROM. ============================================================================ Installing QRZ To Run Entirely From Your Hard Disk Drive (OPTIONAL): The QRZ CDROM data files may be copied to your hard disk drive so that you can use your CDROM drive for other purposes. You will need about 600 Megabytes of free disk space to copy the data. This edition includes a new command that will automatically copy the CDROM data to your hard drive. To use, simply use My Computer to browse to your CDROM drive and double-click on the program CDINST.BAT If you prefer to perform the copy manually, follow these steps: Suppose that you wish to copy the data to your C: drive, and that your CDROM drive is the E: drive on your system. 1. Use the Windows Explorer (My Computer) to open your C: drive at the root (C:\) level. 2. Open another Windows Explorer window into your E: (cdrom) drive. 3. Use the mouse to drag the folder called CALLBK from the E: drive to the C: drive. This will initiate a copy operation. When the copying has finished, you may remove the CDROM from its drive. Verify that your C: drive now has a folder called CALLBK The next time QRZ starts, it will find the C:\CALLBK folder and use it for the database and pictures. Note: The folder must be in the root of the hard disk drive (i.e. C:\CALLBK). The software will not find the data files if the folder is placed elsewhere (like Program Files). ========================================================================== Viewing The Disc With A Web Browser: We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser to explore the disc. This method cannot be used to search for callsigns, but, you will be able to look at pictures, radio mods, and other files. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file. For example, in Netscape: 1. Click on "File" 2. Click on "Open File" 3. Choose your CDROM drive 4. Select the 00_index.htm file In Internet Explorer: 1. Click on "File" 2. Click on "Open" 3. Click on "Browse" 4. Choose your CDROM drive 5. Select the 00_index.htm file ========================================================================== WinView To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView for Windows on the CDROM. This program allows you to page through index files, browse through directories on the CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want onto your hard disk. ========================================================================== More Email Addresses! Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of the most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere. Over the past year, we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio operators from around the world. Now, for the first time we are able to share them with you as a component of the main QRZ database. There are over 209,000 e-mail addresses contained in the callsign database. The email addresses are displayed right along with the regular callsign data, whenever they are available. You can make online updates to your email address at: http://www.qrz.com ========================================================================== Callsign Database Updates We now have listings from USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Austria, Mexico, UK, Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, Taiwan, the CIS (formerly the Soviet Union), and miscellaneous listings from everywhere. At present, the CD will hold about 14,000 images in addition to the callsign database data. Since our online collection contains some 25,000 images, we had to leave some of them out of this edition. The newest images in our collection were the ones that we included on this CDROM. We chose the oldest images because they have already been published on previous editions of the CDROM. If you want to make sure that your picture is on the next edition, please login to http://www.qrz.com and submit a NEW picture or QSL image. ========================================================================== Disclaimer QRZ.COM provides no warranty for any file or program on this CDROM.
